Built in 1859 from local granite, the Wilsons Promontory Lightstation sits atop a rugged point in Wilson Promontory National Park – the southernmost tip of mainland Australia. Historic cottages next to the light station are used as accommodation for guests as well as housing for Parks Victoria employees manning the light station.
The roofs of the employees accommodation had leaked, creating a moist environment, promoting mould growth. We attended site to carry out maintenance on the roofs, mould removal, and re-painting of internal surfaces. With no car access it was great to see the team trek in in high spirits carrying all equipment, materials, tools, food and overnight bags required to carry out the works. A 45 minute undulating trek made easy due to the spectacular scenery and local wildlife.
